Map Of Canada
Canada is a country occupying most of northern North America, extending from the Atlantic Ocean in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west and northward into the Arctic Ocean. It is the world's second largest country by total area and its common border with the USA to the south and northwest is the worlds longest.
The land occupied by Canada was inhabited for millennia by various groups of Aboriginal people. Beginning in the late 15th century, British and French expeditions explored, and later settled along, the Atlantic coast. France ceded nearly all of its colonies in North America in 1763 after the Seven Years’ War. In 1867, with the union of three British North America colonies through Confederation, Canada was formed as a federal dominion of four provinces. This began an accretion of provinces and territories and a process of increasing autonomy from the United Kingdom. This widening autonomy was highlighted by the Statute of Westminster of 1931 and culminated in the Canada Act of 1982, which severed the vestiges of legal dependence on the British parliament.
A federation comprising ten provinces and three territories, Canada is a parliamentary democracy and a constitutional monarchy, with Queen Elizabeth II as its head of state. It is a bilingual and multicultural country, with both English and French as official languages both at the federal level and in the province of New Brunswick. One of the world's highly developed countries, Canada has a diversified economy that is reliant upon its abundant natural resources and upon trade—particularly with the United States, with which Canada has had a long and complex relationship.

Ottawa, November 10, 2010 — Effective December 1, 2010, Citizenship and Immigration Canada will once again accept applications under the federal Immigrant Investor Program.
Under the new program criteria, investor applicants will need to have a personal net worth of $1.6 million, up from $800,000 under the old criteria, and make an investment of $800,000, up from the previous requirement of $400,000.
“These changes were necessary,” said Minister Kenney. “The requirements had not been increased in more than a decade and we need to keep pace with the changing economy.”
Canada’s old immigrant investor criteria were the lowest when compared to other countries with similar programs. The new criteria now align it more closely with other immigrant-receiving countries. The investor program was suspended in June, in part because the high volume of applications was leading to wait times that were too long. Raising the requirements will help reduce the flow of applications while ensuring we attract experienced businesspeople who can make a more substantial contribution to the economy.
Higher personal net worth criteria mean the program is now better positioned to attract investors with valuable business links and the resources to make secondary investments in the Canadian economy.
“Higher investment amounts mean provinces and territories will receive more investment capital to put toward job creation and economic development projects,” added the Minister. Canada’s Immigrant Investor Program offers several benefits to international investors, including permanent resident status up front and guaranteed repayment of the investment.
Under Canada’s old criteria, the volume of applications submitted under the Program had grown exponentially and processing times had increased. By stopping applications between June 26, 2010, and December of this year, the government prevented further delays. Applications received on or after December 1 will be subject to the new criteria and will be processed alongside the old ones.
In this way, Canada can begin to realize the benefits of the changes as soon as possible.
Ottawa, April 27, 2010 — The Young Newcomers Internship Program (YNIP) will be expanded to other government departments and agencies so that more immigrants can benefit from it, Citizenship Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney announced today.
“When newcomers succeed, we all succeed,” said Minister Kenney. “The Young Newcomers Internship Program is an excellent example of how we can help refugees and newcomers overcome one of the key barriers to integration by offering them vital Canadian work experience.”
In YNIP’s first year, Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) offered 12 individuals an initial four-month internship and, where possible, a second four-month internship to maximize their learning opportunity. Twenty interns from countries such as Afghanistan and Ethiopia participated in YNIP’s second year, with placements in Ottawa, Gatineau and other regions across Canada.
“The Immigrant Internship Pilot project (IIPP) is another great example of how we can attract and retain internationally-trained workers and help them contribute to Canada’s long-term economic success,” said Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development.
At Human Resources and Skills Development Canada, 24 interns, newcomers in mid-career, participated in the IIPP. This program offers work placement opportunities to foreign-trained professionals in fields related to their international training to help them gain Canadian work experience and support their integration into the Canadian labour market.
Discussion on the expansion of internship opportunities to other federal departments and agencies is under way. Included in these talks will be partnerships with the World University Service of Canada and other immigrant-serving agencies, such as LASI World Skills and Hire Immigrants Ottawa.
